"I’m often asked by teachers how to get started doing Blended Learning. My answer is always “why do you want to try Blended Learning?” Rather than trying to be cheeky or coy about my practice, I’m trying to begin a conversation about the value of moving learning online. If you haven’t determined why you’re doing it, your attempts will be unfocused and confusing for students. So my suggestion is that you consider your goals – what I refer to as the “verbs” (connect, network, collaborate, cooperate, create, etc.) – and then create the Blended Learning experiences that fit.

Once you know what you’re trying to do, here are the 10 tools I recommend to get started with Blended Learning."

I’ve been interested in changes in higher education since I was at Red River College in the late 1990′s. Our department was the first in Canada to go exclusively laptop. This change resulted in teachers doing what they always did – presenting content, now with PowerPoint instead of overhead slides. Students, in contrast, suddenly had new tools of democratic information access (and distraction) at their fingertips. While educators and education didn’t really change, the learners did"

En los últimos 15 años hemos venido construyendo un espacio de formación y aprendizaje que a lo largo del tiempo ha ido adoptando diferentes nombres: formación online, formación virtual, teleformación o elearning. Para ir construyéndolo, hemos utilizado los mimbres conceptuales y metodológicos de la educación a distancia, de la que tanto sabe nuestro querido Lorenzo García Aretio.

Este espacio formativo se ha ido implantando y difundiendo en nuestras instituciones educativas tanto escolares, universitarias como en la formación profesional continua, siguiendo un modelo exitoso pero a la vez perverso. Me explico. E-learning (voy a utilizar este término de manera genérica) se ha adaptado al modelo “escolar” imperante durante décadas en el imaginario colectivo respecto a lo que significa formación o aprendizaje."

"El uso extendido de móviles (tipo iPod Touch) en el aula está lejos de ser una realidad en el mundo educativo. De hecho parece lógico dado los retos técnicos que presenta su inclusión en las aulas, como pueden ser la conectividad, el pequeño tamaño de la pantalla, la disponibilidad de ancho de banda para rápido streaming, la seguridad de contenidos y el potencial de distracción.
Sin embargo, no faltan estudiantes y profesores en todo el mundo que defienden su uso a través de experiencias muy positivas, que parecen superar cualquier dificultad o peligro. Uno de los casos con más éxito se encuentra en el Reino Unido en la Essa Academy, en donde cada profesor tiene un iPad y cada alumno un iPod Touch, que llevan consigo día y noche. Esta escuela pública ha obtenido mejoras académicas importantes y ahora es considerada como tecnológicamente la más avanzada del país, a pesar de que la mayoría de sus estudiantes proceden de familias desfavorecidas."

The sheer size of this course (120,000 first registered back in March), the high-wattage backing of MIT for a certificate of completion to all those who make it through to the end, and the free, open access nature of this MOOC (a "massive open online course") seemingly ushers in a fundamentally new paradigm in higher education. When coupled with the recent headlines about similar ventures such as Coursera, Udacity, and MIT's own new partnership with Harvard to form edX, the policy world has been positively aglow: David Brooks calls it a "campus tsunami"; John Chubb proclaims it an "historic transformation"; Thomas Friedman writes, simply, "welcome to the college education revolution.""

"Lo acabo de ver y no he resistido la tentación de realizar una comparación sobre las “aulas del futuro”. En realidad, el tema de las aulas no alude únicamente a un asunto de escenario o mobiliario educativo, sino más bien al de entorno educativo.

Visto así, la noción de “aula” implicaría hablar de una magnitud extensa, social y cultural que además de dar cabida al sujeto y al conjunto de acciones e interacciones, forma parte de la explicación y el desarrollo de su aprendizaje. No obstante, ¿qué ocurre cuando hablamos de aula y nuevas tecnologías?

Por un lado podemos sumar aula + tecnología y tener aula con tecnología que, aunque las tecnologías sean muy sofisticadas, mantienen la misma representación de aula… más tecnología (Imagen 1). Aquí el cambio no es de estructura de relación."
